Fraserburgh Running Club Coaches Grant

published: 08 September, 2017

Coaching grant awarded to Fraserburgh Running Club Following the award of £400 from Aberdeenshire Sports Council,Fraserburgh Running Club, embarked on a programme of training up new Coaching Assistants to help develop a new Junior Section for the Club. Four Club members/ volunteers did the UK Athletics two day Coaching Assistant course at the new Banff Community Sports facility and a further two members did the same course at Aberdeen Sports Village. Having now trained up a new coaching resource, the Club established a new weekly Indoor Athletics session at the Community & Sports Centre, in partnership with Active Schools. These sessions have been extremely popular, regularly attracting 20 - 25 young people, aged 8 - 14 years. The intention that this session will evolve into the new Junior Section for Fraserburgh Running Club, which would in turn create junior demand for the proposed new Athletics Track. The Coaching Assistants are gradually building up their confidence and experience and a number of them have already expressed an interest in signing up for the Level 2 Coach Award. The Aberdeenshire Sports Council funding has been a massive help to Fraserburgh Running Club in developing its coaching capacity to enable us to welcome and coach more young people. Coupled with the new dedicated athletics facilities, we can see a very positive future for Fraserburgh Running Club & athletics in North East Aberdeenshire. The Fraserburgh South Links Sports Development project, which aims to deliver a new outdoor sports complex in Fraserburgh, including the area’s first all-weather 400 metre athletics track, finally received all the necessary funding at the end of March 2017. Work has commenced on the construction and the intention is that the facilities will be complete and ready for use by the end of 2017. This will provide a new focus and base for the Running Club and will allow the coaches introduce the young people to ‘real’ athletics, rather than the modified indoor activities, which they currently do.
