ABERDEENSHIRE SPORTS COUNCIL TALENT FUND £500 AWARD -Presentation to be made on the 23rd May 7.30pm in Meldrum Academy

published: 22 May, 2018

Aberdeenshire Sports Council are to present the latest £500 Talent Fund Award to Shannon McWilliam from Aboyne Golf club in recognition of her selection for the Great Britain & Ireland Curtis Cup team to play against the USA in New York in June. The award presentation to Shannon will be by Sports Council Chairman Alan Still and take place at the organisation’s AGM on Wednesday 23rd May at 7.30pm in Meldrum Academy. Shannon is the only Scottish girl selected for the 8-strong GB&I team for the 40th Curtis Cup Match on the 8-10th June at Quaker Ridge Golf Club, in Scarsdale, New York. The Curtis Cup selection is the highest amateur accolade. Julie McWilliam, Shannon’s mum said,” The Talent Fund has come at the right time for Shannon as she heads into a busy schedule of competitions before the Curtis Cup at Quaker Ridge, near New York in June. Not only have we received £500 from the fund but the Sports Council has been instrumental in signposting us to other areas of funding to investigate. Travel costs continue to increase and as Shannon is on the road most of the time Aberdeenshire Sports Council’s Talent Fund is a huge help. As an amateur she has to work outside the game to help with rising costs but never complains. We really are grateful for this cash injection so its a massive thank you to Aberdeenshire Sports Council “. Sports Council Chairman, Alan Still said, “ We are delighted to have helped Shannon in what must surely be the pinnacle of her achievements so far. For a 19 year old from Aboyne Golf Club to be selected to represent Great Britain and Ireland woman in an eight strong squad for the Curtis Cup is a great honour, we wish her well in her quest for stardom in the woman’s game.
