SALSC Local Sports Council of the Year 2018

The nomination process required us to compile a 500 word submission based on the criteria below. Sports Council of the Year This is a new, reviewed category; combining previous categories of social media/online, youth initiative and project/event of the year – all nominations must highlight the impact the Sports Council has had within their local community; whether it be with a specific event, project or initiative, significant progress a Sports Council has made with their online activity, how a Sports Council has developed through the recruitment of staff or new volunteers for example.

Aberdeenshire Sports Council are delighted to announce that at the SALSC National conference at the weekend in Stirling we won the Local Sports Council of the Year for a second consecutive year. Our Chair Jackie Smith and President Alan Still collected the award and paid tribute to the hard work of the volunteers on the executive committee and our 300+ member clubs.
*Garioch Sports Centre Tennis Facility Development*

The Garioch Sports Centre development project has a hugely exciting ambition to build a 3 court indoor tennis facility alongside its existing extensive facilities. This indoor tennis provision will cost in the region of £1.2 million - £1.6 million and will be the first of its type in rural Aberdeenshire. A public consultation meeting evening is being held on Monday 27th August 19.00 at the Garioch Sports Centre. You are invited with any other club representatives to come along to hear about the exciting development plans and to ask any questions you may have about the proposed facilities. Sportscotland Coaching, Officiating and Volunteering (COV) Awards 2018 - open for nominations

We are now inviting nominations for the sportscotland COV Awards 2018. The sportscotland COV Awards provide an opportunity to recognise the fantastic people who work day-in and day-out to deliver a world class sporting system for everyone in Scotland. The awards are a chance to publicly celebrate coaches, officials and volunteers involved in sport in Scotland. There are 13 categories in this year’s awards: Coaching • Young coach (25 years or under) • Young person’s coach • Community coach • Performance development coach • High performance coach • Disability coach • Coach developer • Coaching chain • Lifetime achievement in coaching Officiating • Technical official Volunteering • Volunteer of the year • Young volunteer of the year • Lifetime achievement in volunteering You can find out more about last year’s winners here.
